Shipyard History

The first ship refit activities at today’s shipyard location date back to 1910, when it formed part of a strategically significant Austro-Hungarian naval base. Over the decades that followed, the shipyard steadily expanded its services and facilities, driven by the maintenance and overhaul needs of technically demanding naval fleets. After WWII, the location was turned into the main refit base of the ex-Yugoslavian Navy, which is when most of today’s capacities were built. In 2004, the yard was privatized and until the end of 2018 operated under the NCP brand with the aim of becoming the foremost refit center for yachts and commercial vessels on the eastern side of the Mediterranean.

In February 2019, the Government of the Republic of Croatia granted the concession to ISKRA SHIPYARD, a newly established company 100% owned by the renowned regional industrial leader Iskra, with headquarters in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Iskra is a AAA high-tech company employing more than 1,500 people, with a market presence in more than 100 countries worldwide and a long tradition of developing innovative solutions in the fields of electrical engineering, mid-voltage cable production, automation, water treatment, and energy.

With the strong support of our parent company Iskra, we are constantly implementing a major investment plan in the modernization of equipment and facilities, transferring the location to the most modern, state-of-the-art, and environmentally friendly shipyard.

Nowadays, the shipyard combines established experience and modern technology in order to provide a comprehensive range of services at a fair value. We firmly believe that our reputation must be based on customer satisfaction and 24/7 availability of technical assistance both onshore and at sea.
